Design and Post Matches
How Orsa links your designs to the real posts on your channels, how to accept or reject suggested matches, and how matches feed pillar, audience and idea results in Analyze.
Orsa can tell which of your real posts came from which design. Once a post and a design are linked, Analyze knows the post’s idea, pillar and audience, and the design shows how its post performed.
Some links are made automatically. Others are suggestions you review on the Design & Post Matches page or in the design editor.
Quick start (5 minutes)
- Open Reports and pick a channel.
- If a banner says posts are missing pillar attribution, click Review matches.
- For each suggestion, compare the design with the post. Use Link to design and Link to post to open them.
- Click Accept if the post came from that design, or Reject if not.
- Click Back to Analyze. Your pillar and audience results now include the accepted posts.
How matches are found
Once a day, right after your posts are updated (around 2:00 a.m. UTC), Orsa looks at each of your posts that isn’t linked to a design yet.
| What it finds | Result |
|---|---|
| The post’s link matches a design you published from Orsa | Linked automatically |
| The design was scheduled in Orsa within 24 hours of the post and its caption is very close to the post’s | Linked automatically |
| Only one of those: close timing, or a very close caption | Suggested for you to review |
Caption matching uses the Caption on the design’s Info tab. Designs without a caption can only be matched by timing or by link.
Example: you schedule a design in Orsa for Tuesday 9:00 a.m. but post it yourself from your phone at 9:40 a.m. with a slightly edited caption. The next morning, it’s linked automatically, or suggested if the caption changed a lot.
The missing-attribution banner
On Reports, a banner can appear above the filters:
6 posts are missing pillar attribution in this date range, and 4 suggested matches to your designs are waiting for review.
It counts posts on the selected channel and dates that have no sub-pillar and no linked design. It shows whenever suggestions are waiting. The missing-attribution part only appears when some posts are missing it.
Click Review matches to open the suggestions for that channel and those dates.
Review suggestions on the Design & Post Matches page
The Design & Post Matches page lists every suggestion waiting for review. Opened from the banner, it shows only the channel and dates you were looking at, with a line like Showing matches for posts between 2025-03-01 and 2025-03-31.
Each suggestion shows:
- The design’s thumbnail and name.
- Link to design and Link to post, which open in a new tab.
- The platform, post type and when it was posted.
- The start of the post’s caption.
For each one:
- Click Accept to link the post and the design. You’ll see Match confirmed.
- Click Reject if they don’t belong together. You’ll see Match rejected.
The suggestion leaves the list either way. Click Load More at the bottom for more. When nothing is left, you’ll see No suggested matches.
Click Back to Analyze to return to Reports.
Review matches in the design editor
You can also review matches from the design itself.
- Open the design.
- Open the Info panel and click the Match tab. It only shows once the design is Published or has been sent from Orsa.
- Under Matched posts, you see posts already linked. Click Remove link to unlink one.
- Under Suggested matches, click Accept or Reject.
With nothing to show, the tab says No matched posts yet.
Once a design has a linked post, its Performance tab shows how that post did. See Using the Design Editor.
What accepting a match changes
When you accept a match, Analyze uses the design’s idea for that post:
- Pillars: the post gets the sub-pillars of the idea the design is on. These replace any sub-pillars the AI picked.
- Audiences: the post gets the audiences linked to those pillars.
- Content Idea: the post counts under that idea in Performance by Content Idea.
- The idea’s page: its Performance section includes the post. See Working on an Idea.
For this to work, the design must be on an idea (under Content Pieces), and the idea needs sub-pillars. See Performance Breakdowns.
One design, one post, or many?
- A design can be linked to several posts. For example, the same design posted on two channels.
- A post can be linked to only one design.
Ideas for using matches
Weekly tidy-up. Once a week, open the banner’s Review matches and clear the list.
Example: a salon posts 5 times a week, mostly from the phone. Every Monday they accept that week’s 4 or 5 suggestions, so every post counts toward its pillar.
Track a campaign idea. Put all campaign designs on one idea, then accept their matches.
Example: the idea Summer sale holds 6 designs. Once all 6 are matched, the Performance by Content Idea row shows the campaign’s average engagement.
Tips for the best results
- Publish from Orsa when you can. Those posts are usually linked automatically by their link.
- Schedule in Orsa even when you post by hand. A design scheduled within 24 hours of the post makes a suggestion, or an automatic link if the caption is close too.
- Write the caption on the design. The closer it is to what you post, the better the match.
- Put every design on an idea with sub-pillars. A match only adds pillars and audiences through the idea.
- Check before you accept. Open Link to design and Link to post when two designs look alike.
Common questions
Why don’t I see any suggestions? Posts are checked once a day, after the daily update around 2:00 a.m. UTC. A suggestion needs a design scheduled in Orsa within 24 hours of the post, or a design caption that’s very close to the post’s. Already-linked posts aren’t suggested again.
Why did a post get linked without me accepting it? It was linked automatically: its link matched a design you published from Orsa, or both its timing and caption matched. To undo it, open the design’s Match tab and click Remove link.
Will a rejected suggestion come back? No. Matches are checked again every day for posts that aren’t linked yet, but a design you rejected (or whose link you removed) isn’t suggested or linked to that post again. Other designs can still be suggested for it.
It says “This design or post already has a confirmed match.” That post is already linked to another design. A post can have only one design. Remove the other link from that design’s Match tab first.
I don’t see the Match tab on my design. It shows once the design’s status is Published or it was sent from Orsa. Suggestions for other designs are still on the Design & Post Matches page.
I accepted a match but the post is still in “Other”. The design isn’t on an idea, or the idea has no sub-pillars. Add the design to an idea under Content Pieces and give the idea sub-pillars. See Working on an Idea.
